Is The 3D Robotics Solo Easy To Assemble?
Assembling this aerial drone will not be difficult. To start with, simply fit in the rotors. You can make them tighter by turning them clockwise or anticlockwise. The rotors are marked to indicate which direction they should be turned in. There is a black or silver mark on the prop hubs. This corresponds to similar indicators on the motor’s tip.
A lot of drone designs opt for batteries that are housed in the chassis. With the 3D Robotics Solo, the battery is placed on top of the drone. This is a well designed, oblong shaped extension to the main body of the drone. It allows for easy access if you want to change the battery. The 3D logo is printed on top of the battery housing.
Turning the Solo on and off is very straightforward. You press a button on the top once. A series of LED lights will indicate how much life there is left in the battery. Pressing down again will turn the drone on.
The Solo does not have a camera or a dynamic gimbal. However, it does have provision for a GoPro camera, as there is a frame ready to take this. This will be at additional cost. Overall, this drone is a worthwhile buy.
In the US, there are areas where the drone cannot fly. This will be 5 miles anywhere close to an airport. There are also other areas where the drone cannot be used. This is stipulated by the FAA. Luckily, there is an app on Android and iOS that will tell you that you are entering a controlled area. It also provides a telephone number of the control tower, so you can tell them that you might be entering their “space”.
Takeoff is straight forward. This is a two-stage process–lock then GPS. Next, hold down the Fly button on a separate remote. When the props start moving, repeat pressing down on the Fly button. The Solo will then be airborne, and you can start learning to fly safely.
Here Is My Conclusion
The drone is a new and developing technology. In line with this, the 3D Robotics Solo Aerial Drone represents an exciting step forward. Along with the GoPro camera, this will open up a whole new range of possibilities for you.
There are an extensive number of modes that you can use with the Solo. It also has an easy to use remote. Keep in mind, though, that users in the US who are aged 13 or below will need a parent or guardian to register the device on their behalf.
The Solo is a fine drone and I am sure that you would probably be happy with it. But due to the fact that 3D Robotics does not make consumer drones anymore, I would more than likely go with something else such as the Autel X-Star Premium or one of the drones under $100.
